Early Life and Background

Asher Dov Angel was born on September 6, 2002, in Phoenix, Arizona, and was raised in the nearby town of Paradise Valley. He is the eldest of three siblings, with a younger brother named Avi and a sister named London Bleu. His parents, Jody and Coco Angel, have been supportive of his artistic pursuits from a young age. Asher comes from a Jewish family and has Israeli and Russian Jewish ancestry. 

His passion for the performing arts was evident early on. At the age of five, Asher made his acting debut in the film Jolene (2008), starring Jessica Chastain. He further honed his skills by participating in numerous theater productions at the Desert Stages Theatre in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he appeared in over ten plays, including The Little Mermaid, Seussical, Mary Poppins, and Into the Woods. 

Breakthrough in Television

Asher's significant breakthrough came in 2017 when he was cast as Jonah Beck in the Disney Channel series Andi Mack. The show, which ran until 2019, was critically acclaimed and showcased Asher's versatility as an actor. His portrayal of Jonah Beck, a charming and complex character, resonated with audiences and established him as a rising star in the entertainment industry. 

Transition to Film: The Role of Billy Batson

In 2019, Asher transitioned to the big screen with his role as Billy Batson in the DC Extended Universe film Shazam!. His performance as a teenager who transforms into an adult superhero (played by Zachary Levi) was well-received, and he reprised this role in the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, released in 2023. 

Musical Endeavors

Beyond acting, Asher is also a talented musician. He sings and plays the guitar, showcasing his musical abilities through various performances and recordings. In 2019, he released his debut single "One Thought Away," featuring rapper Wiz Khalifa. The song highlighted his vocal range and musical style, further establishing his presence in the music industry.
